1999 Frankfurter Kunstverein EXHIBITION
The exhibition consisted of a series of rooms that can be seen as possible settings in relation to a fictional person - David - and that person's experiences or memories. The project opened up a process that revolves around the idea of how, with incomplete information, the image of a particular situation can emerge through the interplay of observation and imagination. Gillick also designed the conference room for the “New Art Criticism” symposium that followed the opening day. The room remained after the symposium - as part of the exhibition - and, like many of Gillick's works, moved at the interfaces of art production, applicability (function) and design.
The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition, containing texts selected from more than 100 reviews, articles, and catalogue essays published by Liam Gillick since 1989.
