2006 WITTE DE WITH, CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ART EVENT
Together with the public, we explored ideas about the contemporary art scene in Rotterdam, seeking out interesting alternatives. What does it mean for a supposedly ‘intellectual’ art center, for example, to be located in a so-called ‘working-class’ city?
The Rotterdam cultural field is an ever-fluctuating mosaic of artists, institutions and cultural players. They each play their part within this diverse web, yet it often remains unclear how they collaborate or share their activities. With Unraveling Rotterdam, Witte de With seeks to create several moments that stimulate exchange and discussion between these different cultural players. One goal is to think outside of institutional frameworks and to cast a common eye on current problems and tendencies in the arts.
