2000 Frankfurter Kunstverein EXHIBITION
Migration is the movement of individuals through geographical, social and cultural spaces. Migration influences people's identity. This experience does not necessarily always have to be felt as a ‘rupture’: the question of one’s own origin and belonging can stimulate identity-forming processes. For the artists, this new identity formation is the occasion and subject of their artistic work.
The theme is also of great relevance for the city of Frankfurt am Main with its highest proportion of migrants in Germany. To emphasise this aspect, the exhibition has been supplemented by an extensive special programme in the form of lectures and guided tours on a wide range of multicultural topics. This builds a bridge from the exhibition situation to the specific situation in Frankfurt am Main.
